Travis Roye was born in Augusta, Ga and grew up in Lincolnton, Ga where he graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1998. He attended college at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga where he was named the prestigious Presser Scholar. He also held the position of section leader and principal player in every instrumental ensemble on campus. He was the arranger and instructor for the Georgia Southern University "Southern Pride"Marching Band as well as the Indoor Percussion Ensemble from 2001-2004. He graduated in 2004 and began his teaching career.
Mr. Roye was the Percussion Instructor at Houston County High School in Warner Robins, GA from 2005 through 2011. He then served as the Assistant Band Director at HCHS from 2011 through 2015. Ensembles under his direction earned many grand championships at various marching band contests and many superior ratings at various concert band festivals. Mr. Roye also helped many students to earn acceptance into District Honor Bands, All State Bands, and Governor's Honors Programs over his time as an educator. He also helped many students to gain acceptance into college music programs all across the United States. Mr. Roye went on to become the Band Director at Trion High School in 2016. He spent two years there and helped to open a new band room and grow the program with much success on the field and on the stage.
Mr. Roye has been the band director at Commerce High School for the last 6 years and was named the Star Teacher in 2018 and 2023. The band has achieved much success on the field and on the stage over his tenure including the creation of an award winning jazz ensemble, an award winning marching band and symphonic band, winterguard, and indoor percussion ensemble, and many first place placements and superior ratings at various competitions. Mr. Roye is a professional musician performing with The Atlanta Wedding Band and many various rock bands in the Atlanta area. He also performs orchestrally with various ensembles around the southeast including as a timpanist with the national touring band Rocktopia. He also plays drums for his original band called The Industry who opened for Incubus and The Verve Pipe. Mr. Roye is a published composer for the Countermotion Company and composes music for various ensembles around the state. Mr. Roye is an active adjudicator and clinician in the state of Georgia. Mr. Roye is a member of Georgia Music Educators Association and The Percussive Arts Society. Mr. Roye is married to Carli Roye, the drama and chorus teacher at Commerce High School and they have two children Brooklyn Isabel and Noah Braeden as well as two dogs Joy and Sunny.
